Our history
From being founded in 1992, to expansion into Australia, and gaining many partnerships along the way.
The idea for Hawkins Watts was born in 1992 when a multinational food ingredients company decided to exit the New Zealand market. Peter Hawkins, a sales manager at the time, saw the opportunity to provide local manufacturers with their own trusted specialty ingredients supplier.

Peter Hawkins Food Technology Scholarship
Hawkins Watts is thrilled to partner with Massey University to launch a new scholarship in memory of our founder, Peter Hawkins, who passed away in June 2024. Its purpose is to help the recipient become part of the New Zealand Food Industry, something which was dear to Peter's heart.
The Peter Hawkins Food Technology Scholarship supports fourth-year students in Massey's Bachelor of Food Technology (Honours) programme, offering $10,000 in financial support and a paid work opportunity with Hawkins Watts.
